Bide-a-While is the four and half acre site of a restored century old Texas house featured in both Country Accents and Country Home magazines. The Bowns found the property, house and cottage in 1975 and proceeded, over the next three decades, to restore it to its present state. They were able to preserve the homes original beaded wall boards, windows and floorboards. The property, located in Dickinson, Texas, includes a Main House, Cottage, “Sunday” House, Tree House, Chapel, Jackson’s shed, and art studio. You can relax or dine on our decks, porches, or under a wisteria-covered arbor. On the bird watching deck, which is nestled in the trees and overlooks the bayou, you can paint, meditate, or enjoy watching the sunrise or moonrise. We host various artisan’s events including artist workshops and retreats, creative writing workshops, and quilters groups.
We are located half an hour from historical Galveston Island, Texas which has numerous art galleries, lots of shops and wonderful restaurants. We are also half an hour from downtown Houston, TX, and approximately twenty minutes away from the Kemah Boardwalk tourist attraction. The nearest airport is Houston Hobby Airport located about twenty-five minutes from Bide-A-While.
